New year new pc! Or better old pc lke as fresh new one.
You had idea to put in the trashcan your pc because obsolete and buy a new one but for any reason you still already didn’t?
Follow these steps and you can bring freshness to your old pc absolutely free. Note: the article is for Windows users and with a “clean” pc, i mean without any virus, spyware and various malware because they can really slow down a pc in normal state.
>Check the “health” of your hardware
With some utilities you can test hardware components of your pc to verify that all works fine.
Memtest86+: it performs RAM test
CrystalDiskInfo check hard disk
BatteryCare for who have laptop, battery monitor utility
SpeedFan check temp, voltages, fan speed within the hardware sensors
Optimize system startup
Remove all unnecessary programs/processes to speed up Windows boot.
To see what Windows loads: Start -> Run -> msconfig
Then go to Start tab and unckeck all you want to unload.
Some of them are difficult to understad, if you are not sure do a search on Internet to know what is it.
Also check under Windows Automatic Execution Esecuzione if there is any shortcut.
Alternatively you can use a program like SterJo StartUp Monitor available both as free and pro version.
Monitor cpu and ram usage
with Windows task manager (Processes tab) you can see all processes running and how much cpu and ram they are using. If they aren’t essentials you can kill them, or you can also find some lightweight alternatives.
Keep all programs and drivers installed updated
it can easily affect on pc performances. Yo can manually search on sites if there are updated versions or you can use some utilities; for drivers you can use DriverMax and to check applications updates you can use: FileHippo.com Update Checker, Update Notifier, Secunia PSI, SUMo, Patch My Pc
Moreover remove all software no longer used.
clean, clean, clean
yes i repeat it thrice because it’s very important.
The better solution is to perform a deep clean with format, reinstall Windows or if you don’t wanna do it you can use utilities for cleaning, there are so many, most famous one probably is Ccleaner or all-in-one programs listed below that have cleaning features.
Optimize the system
with system optimization software you can improve your pc performances. Some good free are: Advanced SystemCare Free, Toolwiz Care, Windows Repair, 360 Amigo System Speedup
Defragment disk
keep your disk always tidy with the built in Windows defragmentation utility or specific software like MyDefrag or Smart Defrag are good ones.
Once you done all these steps your pc should be significantly more performant.

I dont agree with the article , all the things suggested you should be doing with what ever PC you are running as good housekeeping
A better alternative for an old pc is to install one of the many flavours of Linux on it .
Linux is more stable and not such a memory resource hog as Windows

What is the point of asking people to comment if the take the time and trouble to and then you censor it by not printing it.
I previously posted the best use for an old PC is to install Linux on it.
All the intems mentioned in the article are what any Windows user should be doing anyway!
