There are various free program for your Android smarthphone that will come useful when you lost your device or if it will be stolen, a list:
Prey – born for pc now available also for mobile devices, features: geolocate with GPS+WiFi, change SIM detection, SIM activation or push, lock phone, uninstallation protect, set loud volume alarm
Lost Phone – send SMS to block phone, to geolocate it, to set volume loud, detection when change SIM
Guardroid – detection when change SIM, low battery usage, protect with password, make the app invisible, geolocation, remote lock and wipe via SMS
Android Lost – read SMS inbox and sent, data wipe, lock phone, geolocation with GPS or wireless, sned remote commands via SMS and many more

e dopo come si fa a localizzare la persona che possiede il cellulare smarrito/rubato ? oppure da quando devo attivare i seguenti programmi ? si attivano da soli o manualmente, se ho credito sulla sim i messaggi vengono spediti, ma nel caso non ho credito ?

generalmente si attivano "remotamente" mandando un sms contenenti parole ben specifiche al cellulare destinatario, poi il controllo avviene tramite un pannello di controllo via web del servizio utilizzato (io ho provato con Prey) indicandoti ad intervalli regolari le varie posizioni (ovviamente a patto che il cellulare abbia o gps o wifi attivo)
